Medication to Lose Fat

In the age of pharmacy, the expectations for a dream pill to turn you into a top model are not that exaggerated, though pills shouldn't be regarded as a substitute for diet and exercise. While medication is not as drastic as surgery, it is risky (and sometimes illegal) for you to take it on your own, without having a doctor to examine you first and then prescribe the appropriate medication.

Medication might look as an easy way to lose fat fast with or without gaining muscles but as with all pills, fat loss medication has both positive and negative aspects. First, you can't spend your whole life on weight-loss pills, so if you manage to get rid of some fat with the help of pills, after that you still need to adjust your eating and exercising habits in order to make the fat loss permanent. Second, even vitamins when taken in large quantities, have undesired side-effects. Some of the pills for weight loss are known for the damage they can inflict on your health and this makes doctors cautious when prescribing such pills.

One of the complicated issues with weight-loss pills is that even if they don't have strong side-effects on their own, when in combination with other pills you take daily (for instance birth-control pills) or alcohol become dangerous. This is on more reason to always consult a doctor before you decide that weight-loss pills are exactly what you need.

One of the cases when doctors are not that hesitant to prescribe fat loss pills is with extremely obese patients, who first need to decrease their weight and then start any physical activity. You wouldn't like to be in that group of people for whom the risk of heart failure after 10 minutes of exercise is real, would you?

Another case when doctors prescribe medication is when after a prolonged diet and exercise there is no more effect – you eat next to nothing, exercise a lot, and still your body seems to be used to this regime and its fat reserves remain untouched. At first, many people might think that they fall into this group, but actually it is a dietologist, who can make the decision whether your metabolism needs stimulation by pills or a this can be achieved by modifications to your diet.

As we already said, medication should be taken only if you have been on a diet and have exercised a lot for at least six months but this does not bring the desired effects. However, there is no guarantee that even with the stimulation of medication you can lose weight. People react individually to different drugs and it is not an exception that a particular pill does not have effects on you. If this is the case, your doctor will certainly prescribe you another pill (probably from the same group), to try if you are more responsive to it.

It is important to know that there are two groups of weight-loss pills - appetite suppressors and fat burners. The names of the two groups are self-explanatory and probably you already guess how they work. Appetite suppressors reduce your desire to eat and you don't feel hungry all the time. Of course, if you eat because you have nothing else to do, not because you are hungry, this group of drugs will not do miracles for you. If you have the strong will to resist the temptation to go to the fridge and eat up what's there, you can rely on some help from appetite suppressors.

The second group – fat burners – is a more serious drug. It acts inside your intestines and helps your body to throw away more fat than usual. This way, even if you eat fatty food, most of the fat is thrown away, rather than stored inside you. A variety of the fat burners category is used by athletes in order to speed up metabolism and burn fats faster.

Fat burners are especially useful in combination with rigorous exercise, rather than as a standalone solution, so if you waited to hear about the magical pill that just sucks the fat out of your body while you are lying on the beach, you might be a little bit disappointed – there is no such pill. Or at least not yet.
